Dean Street was the first joint venture by Studio HIVE and Atlas Land. The development comprises a contemporary purpose built student accommodation block containing a mixture of studios and cluster flats at 13-19 Dean Street, Bristol, BS2 8SF.
The site sits at the northern periphery of the Portland and Brunswick Square Conservation Area, a distinct character area in the city which focuses on the collection of mid-Georgian terraces that form both Brunswick and Portland Squares.
The scheme achieved planning permission in May 2018 and provides up to 225 student bedroom spaces. These are arranged into 44 single occupancy studio units, and 26 self-contained cluster flats catering for between four and ten occupants each.
The accommodation is accessed directly from Dean Street with a reception area, office, communal accommodation, and studio space extending along the Dean Street frontage. There are further communal areas provided on the lower ground floor opening into the rear courtyard offering a range of study areas and meeting and activity spaces, with direct access to the south-west facing courtyard amenity space. A self-contained cafe unit is proposed on the prominent Dean Street Wilder Street corner.
The main contractor, WRW, has now been appointed and started on site in September 2018. Octopus Property will provide the development facility for Atlas Land and Studio HIVE to deliver the project. The building will be completed in June 2020 in readiness for the September 2020 intake.
